Penthouse Party
I took my pals to a Penthouse party last night celebrating the release of the May issue. Here's my friend "Jack" with the May cover girl who was more than happy to pose with anyone who asked. This is one of her more demure shots...demure because Jack told her I was his wife claiming "I need to increase my status!"

--Kambri
Later she did the splits by placing her legs on the shoulders of two men. Quite impressive.

Jack's wife is out of town so I'm taking him to the Penthouse party tonight. Based on past experience, I expect at least one good quote from the night. He'll be joining me and my friend Adam from the Kimmel show. I hope they're not disappointed with the sausage fest this party is sure to be. I'm aiming to get another autograph for My Jailed Deaf Dad and maybe a pic or two. Speaking of Dad, I've been asked to read at another show this time on May 20th at KGB bar. Details to come as the date gets closer.

As an extra for those of you who haven't seen this a million times, here's the link to the leprechaun in Alabama video.

Papillon
The opening of Papillon was filled with very attractive 30-somethings. There must have been 150 or more folks there enjoying the full open bar and wide open space of the upstairs dining area. The space is lovely but a bit on the loud side, so don't plan on an intimate, romantic dinner there. While the free booze was nice, my friend Keith and I were hungry and there was little to no food to be found. Now, I'm no rocket scientist, but I think when you're unveiling a new restaurant you should serve some signature grub. That said, the one -- literally only one -- hor d'ouvres I tried was really tasty. Since we were starving, we headed over to P.J. Clarke's for some good old fashioned burgers.

Had I stuck out The Price is Right experience today is the day my episode would have aired. I'm curious to see how many groups are in the audience and if I'll recognize anyone from the line. If there's not big groups and I see people I remember, I'll be disappointed we didn't hang in there.

I have my kitchen window open to enjoy the fresh Spring air. While in the bathroom I heard some furious squeaking. "Oh no! My mouse is trapped somewhere!" I raced into the kitchen to see if the mouse that has been evading my no-kill trap was poking out anywhere. Turns out it was a bird. Guess that's a true sign of urban living that the sound of a bird chirping is so foreign but the sound of a mouse in my house isn't out of the question.

Photos from last night are here and here.

For Paquita's 5th birthday today, I dumped my panty drawer out on the bed. Happy little birthday girl.

Off to a restaurant opening. Review to follow after I try out all their free food and drinks.

Awesome Show!
About 60 people dropped in for Drink at Work Presents at Siberia for a night of hilarious music by God's Pottery, stand up by Tom Shillue, Hannibal Burress & Jon Lang, Claudia Cogan and a brilliant closing set by Sean Crespo. The first ever live performance of "Conversations with Dad" did really well and DJ Craig Baldo cracks me up. Why does he not have his own sitcom or radio show? Someone change this, please. I'll link to the pictures once they're posted. Meanwhile, plans are under way for the next installment of Drink at Work Presents...you won't want to miss it.

One Hundred Forty One Single Days Left and Counting
Todd Jackson of Dead-Frog.com and his lovely wife Danielle graciously sent me their copy of "The Anti-Bride Guide". I've already gotten a few tips and tricks on how not to make my nuptials all traditional like but reading through it has made me realize how, inevitably, certain details are unique to weddings and will have to be tackled for the first time. Stuff like hotels for out of town guests, getting a *gulp* marriage license and finding someone to officiate to name a few.

But, luckily I'm skilled at event planning (seriously, you should hire me!) so I literally spent one phone call negotiating with our top choice for space and had it all hammered out after one follow up email. I'm the mast-ah!

Jonny Fido is designing our "invitation", my dress has been purchased, the space selected, the caterer chosen, the photographer pitched, hmmm...what the hell is that whole Bridezilla thing about? I don't get it.

Two Plugs
UPDATE: Christian's spot on Carson Daly will air on Friday the 31st. He graded himself a "B".

Christian is doing a short (4.5 minute) set on Last Call with Carson Daly this afternoon. I'll let you know the airdate soon. I'm bummed I'm not still out in LA to watch it live but happily they air the episodes pretty quickly after the taping so I won't have to wait long.

On Monday, I'll be having drinks with Jack. Good old Jack, I miss him and his inappropriate office humor. Afterwards, I'll head over to Siberia where the Drink at Work folks are putting on a really awesome show complete with musical guests, stand up comedy by Tom Shillue (!) and a reading of Francesco Marciuliano's Conversations with Dad. It starts at 8:00 and is FREE, so come on out to Siberia for a cheap night of really fun / awesome talent. View the flyer.

Tune in to TV Land Wednesday Night!
Here are a few photos from the TV Land affiliate's cocktail party at Shutters in Santa Monica that took place the night before the awards ceremony. It was a small little gathering with Christian performing and Marion Ross, Tom Wopat, Christopher Knight, Adam West & Erik Estrada as the other celebrity guests. There's a cute one of Marion Ross & Christian embracing. She's so cute. Gotta get my disposable camera developed for the pic of me & Erik. I hope it turns out!

During the aforementioned cocktail party, Larry, the president of TV Land, told us a funny anecdote about musical guest Diana Ross. While setting up the stage in preparation for her performance, she told a production crew member she wanted a speaker moved.

"Yes, Ms. Ross. I'll try to do that for you."

"Now you know I don't like the word 'try'."

How awesome is she?!

My 13 Year Old Alter Ego Just Died & Went to Heaven
If you had told the 13-year-old, tin trailer living, outhouse using, raggedy clothes wearing version of me that her life would come to this, she would have wanted to believe it with every fiber of her being but couldn't possibly have imagined it coming true. I swear I wished on many a bright star, birthday cake candle and 11:11 clock read-out that I would have a life & career that allowed me to have a night like I had tonight. And the awards haven't even happened yet!

Tom Wopat told Christian, "Your fiance is beautiful." And he was totally serious. And he was talking about ME! Later, I "made out" with Erik Estrada (picture forthcoming) with Christian's blessing. Erik is by far the most gregarious, charismatic person I have ever met solidifying my impeccalbe taste in men even when I was pre-pubescent.

Marion Ross is the most awesome, touchy feely lady ever.

Adam West is witty and vibrant and clever and handsome. He also lives in Idaho which made Christian bite his tongue to abstain from making a bat cave joke.

Chris(topher) Knight was without Adrianne which made me sad because I think she's adorable, but he was enthusiastic and gracious all the same.

I fear for this site's future because I can't really honestly talk about half the crazy, surreal, jaw dropping moments and, well, what's the point of writing about them if I can't really write about them?

Robot Chicken Sneak Peek
Based on the dailies of the new Robot Chicken we caught a sneak peak of yesterday, I can safely say you MUST watch it if you like to laugh. Each episode is about 12 minutes of non-stop hilarity. That's a nice bite size chunk of rolling laughter for your day.

Sarah invited me back for another tour of the studio where she and a whole host of other animators create wacky shorts with Corey Haim & Corey Feldman (dolls are modeled in exact likeness of and voiced by the real Coreys), Heathcliff & Garfield, an original Weird Al song about smashing weasels (again, it's the real Weird Al), and -my favorites- prankster time travelers from the future and "Cork" a mentally retarted private detective. I have video I shot of her showing us on 8 second clip of a scene she shot yesterday - a whole day! - but I can't show it to you until the episode airs. It's so wrong but you'll laugh your socks off.)

We met Seth Green who I can sense is genuinely excited about his project. He seemed to be trying to place how he knew Christian. I'm not sure if he was just being nice (Sarah had told him of our impending visit and a little bit about Christian) or if he actually did recognize Christian, but either way he was super-gracious and welcoming.

We were invited to stay to watch the dailies of everything that had been shot in this last week. It's astounding how much and how little is accomplished in one week. When you see each shot and watch it with the knowing eye of what it takes to make it, it is impressive how many clips were completed in just five days. But when you add them all up and piece them together, there was maybe 15 minutes worth of material to go through.

--Kambri
My & Sarah's mission: get Christian to do a voice over. Wouldn't that be fun?!

Cool!
We just got confirmation of our limos to and from both events and along with it they included the confirmed guests. I think my head is going to explode from nostalgia & excitement!

Besides all the other guests I've mentioned, here are some other notables: Billy Crystal, Donny Osmond, Marie Osmond, Christopher Knight, Hilary Swank, John Schneider, Tom Wopat, Mary Tyler Moore, William Shatner, Robert Downey, Jr., Snoop Dogg, Chris O’Donnell, Tina Yothers and a really special musical guest that we're not allowed to talk about, plus the cast of Grey's Anatomy and so many more. I hope Paris Hilton doesn't show (she's a maybe) and, if she does, I hope we're wearing the same dress.

This Just In!
Christian has been booked to do a spot on Last Call with Carson Daly this Thursday, March 23rd! Air date TBD. He got some other fab-o news today, too, but we can't break it just yet. Let's just say St. Patrick's Day is a lucky one for this Irishman!

Plugs
Christian was great on Loveline last night. I was still illin', so I stayed home. It was hard as hell for me to stay awake with my hangover, but once I heard his name come out of Dr. Drew's mouth, I perked up. By the second hour, he had warmed up and gotten the hang of things.

The Apiary should be running a Q&A with Christian today in honor of St. Patrick's Day and tonight's airing of Friday Night Stand Up on Comedy Central from 9:00 - 11:00. It's all the stuff we filmed in Dublin and by looking at some of the promos CC has been running, it turned out pretty well.

Tonight, it's beer with my girlfriend Sarah and her fellow crew members of Robot Chicken at their studio where we'll watch all the stuff they shot this week. Interestingly, Seth Green (writer, producer, cast member of Robot Chicken) will be the guest host of Loveline on April 4th. The guest host of Loveline the day before Christian? Danny Bonaduce.

Christian has been asked to do some red carpet / back stage stuff at the TV Land Awards. The guy who did it last year? Danny Bonaduce. We can't get away from the guy. I hope his reality show crew isn't following him to the awards. I don't want the producer to recognize us from the restaurant the other night.

Jimmy Kimmel Live was fun last night. I played Galaga in the green room and had one of the best games of my life. Awesome. Drank free wine, chatted with a one of the producers and enjoyed the music of Hard Fi. Randy Jackson looked great and did you know he used to play guitar for Journey?!?! Janet Reno is something else. What an awesome woman.

After everyone cleared out I danced on the Jimmy Kimmel stage and did a very poor "Sprinkler" move.

Afterwards we had even more wine at the Burgundy room where I chatted with the guy who books all the musical acts for Kimmel. That's a fun gig, I'm guessing. All that wine did me no good this morning so I bailed on dinner tonight with Sarah.

And I finally decided to return the schmancy blue dress in favor of something I can wear more than once. Before I left for the store, I twirled around in it one last time.

Today is a work day for me. Bunches of travel arrangements, tuxedo fittings and scheduling meetings. Plus more work on my interview questions, my "First For Women" column and developing something to read from Love, Daddy at the Gathering of the Tribes reading on May 3rd.

On Friday, I'm going to visit my girlfriend Sarah on the set of Robot Chicken. She's the same friend who did stop motion animation for Moral Orel (pic of me on the set) which I love.

Update on the 2006 TV Land Awards: The entire cast of Dallas and Batman are the other special guests! My mom is going to flip her wig!

Monday, March 13, 2006

I just came back from a shopping trip where I got my red carpet evening gown for the 2006 TV Land Awards and a cocktail dress the pre-show event the night before which will double as my "wedding" dress, I think. Both are BCBG Max Azria and both were just under $400. Really lovely affordable dresses that will hopefully get lots of wear. I'm not shy about wearing the same thing twice but I am tempted to return the evening gown after the event and exchange it for something more versatile.

I'm so excited to meet the cast of Cheers but mostly John Amos. Barbara Eden will be cool to meet and Pam Anderson & Tom Arnold. Who knows how many folks I'll get to chat with but I'll be doing another behind the scenes video similar to my Today Show coverage.

This time last year I was in St. Louis promoting the Chappelle's Show Live with Charlie Murphy, Donnell Rawlings & Christian Finnegan (view the photo). I much prefer this.

For you Loveline fans, Christian will be the guest host with Dr. Drew Pinksy this Thursday.

I'm a Terrible Fan
We already threw in the towel on TPIR. We did get in line and got our pass to go inside but it would have been for the second taping. We're tired and cold and have some *exciting* phone calls we're expecting today. So instead of coming on down, I'm going to work and devour all the news about murder suspect Darryl Littlejohn.

I'm only mildly disappointed (I was on the sound stage before, so at least I've seen the set) and am impressed with the stamina these fans must have. I guess if I had never been to LA before and thought I wouldn't be back again and/or had never attended a television show before, I might endure the process. Bless their hearts. If you ever plan on going, be prepared to get in line the night before. No joke. Best bet? Get yourself a really large group so you can reserve tickets.

Live from LA, it's Sunday Night!
Many silly computer software issues today but I walked away from CompUSA with Access 2003 for my schmancy laptop and still can't send Christian's latest newsletter. Since this has never been a big deal in NYC, I'm hoping it's just this particular internet connection. So, check out All Things Me by, of and about Christian Finnegan.

Last night's ASSSSCAT was great. Christian was a bit green but had some great improvisational monologues. The improv group itself was terrific. There was a guy there from Mad TV which, I assume, is what inspired Stephnie Weir to attend. Faithful readers might recall that she was in Eden Court, the film Christian & Stephnie filmed with Tom Lennon (Reno 911) and Kimberly Williams Paisley (According to Jim).

We had an awkward run-in with Danny Bonaduce and his wife while they were filming their reality show. We walked into a restaurant near UCB LA where we had dined once before only to stumble in on their "reality". We were invited by a producer (?) to stay despite the fact that it was dead silent and we would have been the only other diners in the entire space besides the Bonaduces. In addition to that strangeness, Christian appears in a VH1 Best Week Ever promo with Danny's phsychiatrist spoofing the goofiness of Danny & shows like his. Needless to say, we ate somewhere else.

Tonight was dinner with a dear friend who writes for The Showbiz Show with David Spade. Although the reason that made us get together was for one of my clients, we had a great time chatting about random nonsense including tomorrow's Price is Right adventure. Speaking of which, I have to get up in about FOUR hours in order to have a chance on being in the audience.

Home Away From Home
I made it to LA. Last night 50 folks enjoyed the new leads in Sidd and I received much more positive feedback on the show. I had over 80 people on standby so maybe I'll do an unprecedented third special night.

Some crappy soccer movie and lots of old sitcoms were shown on the flight, so I slept, worked on my next First For Women piece and drafted answers to questions for an interview I've been asked to do. I got quite a lot of work done on a really cramped plane, so I'm pleased. We got to our temporary apartment which was my first time to see it. It was weird to know that Christian has been living in this whole separate house away from me and our animals. I wish I could stay longer, but Paquita isn't welcome here so Rachel & Chuck are keeping her company.

For you LA folks, come to UCB Theater tomorrow night at 8:00 when Christian is the special guest monologuist for ASSSSCAT.

We'll probably hit The Price is Right Monday, The Jimmy Kimmel green room for drinks and mingling one day (I'm leaning toward Wednesday when Janet Reno will be there along with Randy Jackson of American Idol) and I brought along quite a bit of work to do as well.

On my last night here we're going to TV Land's 2006 Viewer's Choice Awards pre-show cocktail ceremony at Shutters in Santa Monica. Thankfully they're treating us to transportation to and from so Christian have a drink or two. Megan Mullally is this year's host and special guests include the entire cast of Cheers and John Amos & Jimmy Walker. The awards will air on TV Land on the 22nd.

All the Ballyhoo Promotions / Tex in the City Oscar Viewing Party pics are loaded. ALL 34 of them! My digital camera battery died so we used disposable cameras, hence the lame quality of some of the scans but they're decent pics overall. You can tell we were having fun and everyone there was really into the awards so it wasn't annoying trying to hear the winner or acceptance speeches.

Christian got me tickets to The Price is Right for every single tape day that I'm there. COOL! Except that it's an all day affair. No exaggeration, it's a 5:00 AM 5:00 PM kind of thing. So, it looks like I'll only make one attempt at Coming on Down. I had a terrific idea for how to get on the show: Christian proposes marriage to me in line. Great, right? Sure fire, no? Christian won't do it. Chicken.

Gonna call the whole thing off, now.

Extreme Makeover - NOLA Animal Rescue Edition
I've shared some fun news and some sad news about the animals my good friend Keith & I cared for in NoLA, but here's some real good news.

The guy pictured here is a fellow that Keith & I both loved. Keith, especially. What sealed our love for him was that when he was sedated for a procedure he died due to an undetected heartworm condition only to be brought back to life and into our hearts. The name of the street on which he was rescued in New Orleans? "Hope Street."

Keith tried to convince me to adopt him despite him being a heartworm positive, unneutered alpha male and Paquita being an unspayed alpha female. He tried to think of ways to make it work in his pet-free apartment building. I wanted to take him home but common sense prevailed. Heartworm treatment for dogs is dangerous and stressful. With Paquita around him, he would not get the isolation and R&R that heartworm treatment requires. So, we hoped for the best and Keith, bless his heart, sponsored "Jacques", named so because of his *ahem* romantic tendancies. His foster home renamed him "Crawdaddy" much to our horror. His adopted family kindly changed it to "Dusty".

And the good news? Dusty has recovered fully from heartworm and has gained weight and his hair has grown back in. Talk about an awesome before and after shot.

Here is how he looks now.

Just saw on the TV Guide that tonight's Chappelle's Show is the one with Christian Finnegan as "Chad" in the "Mad Real World" sketch. Watch it!

I also made a "behind the scenes" video of Christian on The Today Show and uploaded it to YouTube.com. It takes a while to load so click it, hit pause while it downloads and come back to it later.

Some Boasting & Begging
While chatting about the Oscars with the Best Week Ever panelists and Katie Couric [brag!], I realized that even though I had just thrown a big Oscar party, I really didn't watch the Oscars. I was too busy grading ballots. So after the Today Show and a quick visit with my banker and graphic designer, I came home and re-watched the whole show.

I thought Jon Stewart did a fine job. It's a tough crowd and a big house. That's hard for any stand up. Add the pressure of the Oscars and millions of television viewers and you've got yourself a tricky situation. Stewart didn't blow it.

I've never understood what the "big deal" was about George Clooney, but then I heard his acceptance speech. The dude is a STAR! Christian has a man crush on him (he even confessed it on The Today Show yesterday) and now so do I.

Tangent: I just got this in my inbox about the Oscar party: "I had so much fun! you totally know how to throw a party!" Yay!

Christian is at The Price is Right ticket office today trying to get me tickets for next week. OH MY GOD I need to be on this show! I am going to take my autographed photo of Bob and wear a tight tee shirt that says "I"ll Come on Down anytime!" or something like that. Plus I'm going to try and be-friend every single person I meet and generally act like I'm on speed.

Please God let me get on this show!

Oscar Party Re-Cap
4 big flat screen televisions
+ 40 people
+ the biggest entertainment awards ceremony of the year
= A rockin' good time!

Eight prize packages were given throughout the night: two random drawings, four trivia prizes and two prizes based on ballot results. Every winner received a bottle of booze, free passes to a future Ballyhoo Promotions event and a CD. Other lucky winners also won movies and the top two prize winners received admission for two to any AMC theater and admission for two to the American Museum of the Moving Image.

Rose filled popcorn boxes and popcorn filled bags decorated the room along with vintage movie posters and other festive movie-themed decorations. There was even a red carpet!

Just a few pics are up at Tex in the City but more photos coming soon! A big thanks goes out to Tex in the City collaborater Kevin Farr and his adorable boyfriend Paul. Kevin co-produced the event with me and Paul just chipped in many helping hands because he's just that nice.

It's a pARTy!
June 5, 2006 - My first little "Funny Pages" item I wrote will appear on newsstands in the magazine First For Women! Any ideas for future funny stuff? We're working on the summer issues, so I'm thinking Top 5 Reasons to Celebrate Your Independence (pre-July 4th issue) or Top 5 Reasons to skip fireworks, have a picnic, go someplace cold for vacation...

Tonight - The Oscar Party hits the red carpet. We've even got a reporter for the arts section of a major publication *possibly* coming by. Don't know if she'll show or actually report on it but we'll be happy to have her there regardless. Check out yesterday's blog entry for an update on prizes and what not.

Monday - After the Best Week Ever Today Show appearance, I head over to Chase where I will finalize all the paperwork and banking for my new umbrella company Workshop Creations, LLC which wholly owns Ballyhoo Promotions and Tex in the City. Which reminds me, did you know I'm on the hunt for new productions? Well, I am. I'm in talks with two comedians and two writers for new projects and have signed the new Drink at Work show at Siberia scheduled to premiere on March 27th. Send me an email or mail me your stuff (see my contact page), either way I'll get back to you.

After signing a gamillion documents at Chase, I'm meeting with the funny & talented Jonny Fido in hopes that he'll be able to do some small graphic design projects for me, one of which is my and Finny's "wedding invitations" known to us as "postcard fliers" for our "party". The other is helping me work on this:

I came up with the whole pARTy thing a long while ago but never implemented it. With tomorrow's rockin' Oscar party, that will change. Ultimately, I'm still not sure what I want to do with it. I'm not sold on the "The art of the..." portion but love the "pARTy". It could be "Welcome to the..." or "It's a..." or a million other things. The design means nothing right now save for the capitalization. Any ideas are most appreciated.

Come on Down or Up Depending on Your Location
I woke up early and headed into the blustery cold for a free facial at "Just Calm Down". Pleasant and relaxing but I had to get nekkid. For a facial? Umm, okay. It was niiiiice and thank God it was free becausse it was damned expensive.

[Update: I just tallied all the prizes and they're pretty darn good. Eight prizes will be given out over the course of the evening, so even if you show up too late to fill out the ballot you'll have a chance to go home with something.]

We're expecting a pretty healthy crowd at The Gin Mill for tomorrow's Oscar party (see calendar at left for details), so fun is in store even if it ends up being the most boring Oscars yet. The ballots are printed up and I've got some fun decorations including a faux red carpet. My pal comedian Jess Wood RSVPd with the note, "I can't wait to see what you're wearing." I didn't even think about it until then. I suppose I'll wear something more festive and dressy than just any old party but, dang, it's cold outside.

Okay, back to watching this fascinating documentary on the History Channel entitled "Titanic's Final Moments: Missing Pieces".

About Last Night
I was chatting with the bartender at Dodger Stages last night and explained why his bar was so very busy.

"Busier than usual," he said.
"I'm promoting the show and told everyone to meet me here," I said.
"Thanks for getting them to come, but I guess that's what you do," he said.
"Yep. I make people come," I said.

Awkward pause.

"I'll be going now," I said.

Since Christian is in LA, it's only fitting that he should take part in the The Hollywood Podcast. His podcasted interview is an hour long, so be patient with the download. Click here to listen.

My crazy week and a half of parties, events and other major tasks is coming to an end. Today is an interview with some entertainment suits who flew in from Los Angeles. Sunday is the Oscar Party and Monday is the Today Show.

Events Galore!
Tonight I'm taking a bunch of lucky folks to see Sidd a new musical based on the book Siddhartha. Kind of nasty weather tonight but a free night of theater is too good to pass up.

[UPDATE: Christian Finnegan might fly in from LA to attend the party! Well, that and to be on the Today Show the next morning, but whatever. He might be there!]

The Oscar party is going to be fun, so come on out and watch the Oscars on four giant flat screen televisions in a newly remodeled space at the Gin Mill. Anyone and everyone is welcome! We've already got a nice sized RSVP list and some good prizes lined up if you choose to participate in the gambling. We'll sell the ballots for cheap so you'll have plenty of chances to win.

Here are the details:

442 Amsterdam Avenue
New York City, New York 10024
