From Christian Finnegan, comes this note:
Beloved e-Friends,

THE TIME OF RECKONING IS NIGH AT HAND!!

Tickets are now available for the live taping of my very first comedy special, "AU CONTRAIRE!". The two big friggin' shows will take place on October 25th at the Trocadero Theater in glorious Philadelphia, PA.

It will be a glorious night of awkward personal revelations and hypocritical assaults on your character!

I'm going to lay it bare, folks--this will be the most important night of my comedy life and I want as many friendly faces there as possible. Don't make me bus in a bunch of homeless people!

Some good news: These tapings will be completely free of charge. You hear that, cheapskates? FREE!!! Some more good news: If you attend a taping, there's a very good chance your mug will appear on the tee-vee when Comedy Central airs "Au Contraire!" in early '09. Think you can wait around to reserve your tickets? Au contraire!** Tickets are going to be extremely limited.
SO GET YOURS NOW!

To reserve tickets, complete this online form. Make sure to fill in the "Promo Code" section with the word "Finny". This will get you priority seating--it's my way of rewarding you, my true inter-pals. And this way you can avoid rubbing shoulders with the filthy, teeming masses!

You. Me. A bunch of cameras. What could be more enticing?

I'll see you October 25th, friendlies.

Christian Finnegan,
Ready for his close-up

**See what I did there? I artfully worked the title of the special into the body of the email. Pretty slick, huh? That's what makes me part of the Comedy Elite.

Tables Turned
Tickled to hear Christian was telling everyone in Chicago about my book. Glad I've made him proud. It's always the other way around.

Off to our celebratory dinner where we will eat lavishly and drink champagne.

Come to Ochi's Lounge Tomorrow
And you will hear me tell the story of how I sold my book proposal, and what Christian said when I broke the news.

--Kambri
Then stick around to party all night before my real hard work begins.

I'm Comical Radio's "Achiever of the Year!"
I was a guest on The Comical Radio a few days ago and Christian was on a few days later. In their blog recap of the show (on page 69...heh, heh!) they said:

"If you had to stop your father from stabbing your mother to death and then years later you were called to testify against him for attempting to murder his next wife, would you then send him letters in jail and publish a book about it called "Love, Daddy?" Kambri Crews would! After wowing Danny and the crew with tales of hiding out in the woods she discussed how she helped a comedian with an ineptitude for marketing and then parlayed her work into Ballyhoo Promotions, a publicity firm for comedians and comedy shows. Two profitable endeavors based on negative events? That wins Kambri Crews the esteemed Comical Radio's Achiever of the Year Award! Congratulations, Kambri!"

I should clarify: Dad didn't stab my mom, but I did stop an attack on her. And we weren't hiding out in the woods...just living there. Starting over after another one of Dad's affairs. It's always interesting to see how people remember and recount my story. Even Christian gets things goofed up when he tells facts about my life. We all have ways of remembering and telling.

Anyway, they did a pre- and post-show interview with us as they do with all guests. The end of Christian's made me laugh out loud. Here they are but I'm sorry to say they aren't closed captioned:

Vlogging Sarah Palin
I keep neglecting to mention this! Sara Benincasa, the lovely host of The Family Hour, has become somewhat of an internet sensation. After Sarah Palin was awarded the VP candidate nomination, Benincasa promptly created a video and slapped it on YouTube. CNN, Newsweek, Wired and a bunch of other sites ran with it, and she is enjoying the maelstrom of positive and negative comments that come with the internet. And boy those negative comments can be pure evil. It's a bumpy, wild ride this comedy business. Strap in.

--Kambri
The Family Hour is now every Saturday at 9:00 in Ochi's Lounge. It is still free, and I still tell a story on it every week as the guest "Cousin in Residence".

Hey, What Are You Doing This Weekend?
As I mentioned, my main squeeze Christian Finnegan is headlining at Gotham Comedy Club this weekend and wants you to go. What I didn't tell you is that much of that material will be on a DVD to be released in Spring 2009. The DVD taping will take place October 25th in Philadelphia at the Trocadero Theatre in front of two separate audiences. If you're in the Philly area and would like to attend, email me and I'll save you a seat.

I hope my agent gets to see Christian perform since he does some material about My Jailed Deaf Dad and me. After reading my writing for a while, it would be a kick for her to hear about it from someone else's perspective. She is flying in from Chicago to take me on gobs of meetings with publishers next week. Booked solid for two (maybe three) days, I am. How fun is that? I guess I just need to prove I don't have three eyes and a speech impediment that might stop me from going on a media tour. I'm sure we'll review platform stuff which I could talk about till the cows come home. Who knew my marketing days on the Cuervo Nation would actually be useful? When I was doing shots out of a water ski, I sure didn't.

Umm, what else? A couple of my writer friends from The Daily Show and Colbert Report have agreed to give me blurbs and --brace yourself-- AC/DC has a new album coming out. Let there be rock!

Comical Radio and Olbermann
I was a guest on Comical Radio today talking all things Love, Daddy: Letters & Stories from My Jailed Deaf Dad and comedy, of course. It was a lot of fun but the time flew by! I hope they'll have me back again soon. Christian will be their in studio guest next Friday as he's headlining at Gotham Comedy Club and will need to promote those dates. I'll be attending at least one show but not sure yet which night and time. Do go out to see him, though. He has a whole new hour of material from the time he headlined there one year ago. That's pretty impressive, imo.

Meanwhile, I have Christian tentatively booked on Countdown with Keith Olbermann tonight. It's been a few weeks since he was last on due to all the conventions, so I'm sure they'll have lots to joke about tonight. I'm very curious if my friend Sara Benincasa's vlogs of Sarah Palin will be discussed. That would be wild. Why? Because Sara hosts The Family Hour in Ochi's Lounge (now Saturdays at 9:00) which is the show on which I appear every week.

--Kambri
Olbermann hasn't confirmed yet or sent over the topics, so we'll have to wait and see.

Writer's Block Obliterated
I'm reading On Writing by Stephen King which I'm thoroughly enjoying. In it, he talks about having a quiet place to write. I know this to be true since my chirping birds, barking / whining/ horny dog, cable TV and internet provide me with constant interruptions. I haven't been able to write at home as a result. I've been unhappy with Chapter One and have been stuck on just where do I want to start. I wish I could retreat to Sherry Weaver's cabin as she so generously provided to David Dickerson and would kindly offer to me. However, work here in the city beckons. Sigh.

So, I've been trekking around Astoria with Christian's old Mac laptop (he bought himself the MacBook Air--sleek!) in search of a quiet corner with an outlet where I can write and tune out with my iPod. His old laptop has internet connection problems which means no browsing endless open house listings, Facebook and MySpace pages. Just me and the page. I've tried my favorite local haunts like Cafe Bar (too hectic and tends to have children runnig around), Cup Diner (only one outlet in an area they close when it's slow), and a few other places all with their negatives.

Then finally I went to a place that had what I wanted: an outlet that is always available, food and drinks, giant glasses of water, nothing of interest going on to distract me and lets me sit quietly with my iPod.

I plugged in and typed away on a new Chapter One and it was good. So, I went back and it was better. And, last night it was magical. My agent loves it. LOVES it. And so do I. I could *feel* it as I was typing. I texted Christian, "ohmygod I'm writing a fu*king masterpiece in god damned Applebees."

Yes, Applebees is where the magic happens. I guess I should be happy I found a place where the words flowed freely. But do I really want a plaque on their wall commemorating it? Hrrrrmmmm.

I really do love my new chapter and will go back there as many times as it takes! Even though, I'm not done with King's book, I highly recommend it as a writer's tool / interesting read.

Comix TV Report
We put together our first Comix TV report. This one is about XM Radio's live tapings of "Unmasked," a great talk radio show that they record at Comix. Since it's our first, there are a few things we didn't do "right" but it turned out alright. I sure did enunciate! Heh.
